ORANGE THURSDAY


Do Now: Make vocab flashcards (weeks 4, 5, 6) for quiz NEXT THURSDAY (use the flash card app. 10 minutes)


Objectives:
  • apply close reading skills to independent reading
  • annotate key passages for inference and character development of chapter 5


Agenda:
1) Do Now: flash cards
2) Outside Reading Book- grab your index card and book (20 minutes)
3) In pairs: locate 3 examples EACH of the conch, specs, and beastie from chapter 5. Record page numbers in your "LOTF Reading Guide Chapters 4-6" (10 minutes)
4) Individual: annotate the chapter 5 excerpt using the INFERENCE habit (5 minutes)
5) In pairs: Look at the annotated passage for the chapter 5. Select a golden line (idea-based quotation) from the passage that helps you answer the following question:
How is the balance of power slowly shifting from Ralph to Jack?
Record the quotation you chose and answer this question in your reading guide chapters 4-6 packet (essential question #3 on the last page).
6) (If time) listen and follow along to audiobook for chapter 6 LINK
7) Summarizer: Who do you like better- Ralph, Piggy, Simon, or Jack?  Explain. (socrative)

What does mutinously mean?  If you do not know, look it up.  What does the use of that word foreshadow for the island?
